This course allows the student to choose 4 topics to work on from the following: keyboarding, word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), database (Access), presentations (PowerPoint), and web site development through a WYSIWYG editor which can be downloaded from the internet. Students will work on their own to complete assignments and should finish each topic within half of a quarter.
Personal Finance gives students the tools to be able to handle their money in their personal life. Topics explored will include: budgeting, banking, credit, investments, renting a house, buying a home, insurance, buying a car, and doing taxes.
In 7th grade Tech Apps the student will learn the basics of Microsoft Excel and Publisher, as well as gaining typing speed. PowerPoint knowledge will also be extended. Students will use the COOL learning site to turn in assignments.
Advanced micro is a course for students who have taken microcomputer applications and want to learn more uses for Excel and Access. It is an online class where students are expected to finish assignments on their own through reading directions and practicing their skills on given assignments. Self-directions will be a very important skill for this course.
In desktop publishing, students will use Word, Publisher, and InDesign to design various documents and products including logos, business cards, a children's book, a short magazine, a series of restaurant menus, and a picture collage, among others. It is a class to let your creativity shine! There is lots of independent work.
Students will explore entrepreneurship and all aspects of business in this course. Some assignments will be turned in through use of this online module
Accounting IB is a continuation of 1st semester accounting. Students will learn more about special journals, posting to ledgers, and accounting work for corporations and partnerships. A simulation will be done at the end of the semester to use all topics learned in a more "real" setting.
8th Grade Tech Apps will integrate computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, desktop publishing, database, internet, and PowerPoint into lessons about careers.
Students will learn how to design websites using html and xhtml code following basic design principles.
